Abia State

Welcome Address.
“On behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the website of the Office of the Ombudsman. This platform represents a significant step towards enhancing transparency, accountability, and good governance in our country.

The Office of the Ombudsman plays a critical role in investigating complaints and promoting fairness in the public sector. Through this website, citizens can access information, submit complaints, and track the progress of their cases.

I encourage all Nigerians to take advantage of this platform to hold public officials accountable and ensure that our government serves the people. We are committed to upholding the principles of justice, equity, and fairness, and we believe that this website will help us achieve these goals.

Thank you for visiting, and I look forward to seeing the positive impact of this initiative on our nation-building efforts.”

The Abia State office of the Commission is currently located at No 72 School Road Secretariat Umuahia. We have 8 Area Offices located at Aba North, Aba South, Ikwuano, Isuikwuato, Ohafia, Osisioma, Ukwa East and Umuahia North LGAs. We have 64 staff on the nominal roll. The Hon Commissioner Bar Nwaogu is the Abia Ombudsman. The State Director is Mrs Oluchi Ibiam and we have 7 Chief Investigation Officers with other categories and levels of staff in the state. There are two Investigation Divisions – Public and Private in the state.

The permanent State office complex of the Commission is still under construction at Ubakala, Umuahia South LGA along the Enugu/PH Expressway.

Under the present administration the Commission has embarked on aggressive public enlightenment and publicity aimed at acquainting the public with the existence and activities of the Commission.

The Abia State Office of the Public Complaints Commission was established in 1991, following the creation of Abia State from the old Imo State. Since its inception, four Federal Commissioners have led the office: Amb. Igwe, Hon. Dike Uduma, Hon. Chukwuemeka Nwaogu (who served two terms), and Hon. Madukwe E. E. Ukaegbu (currently serving his second term).

Each administration has made a lasting impact on the Commission, contributing to its growth and effectiveness. To increase accessibility and reach more people, especially at the grassroots level, the Commission has established a state headquarters sited along Aba, Enugu/Portharcourt expressway, Ubakala, Umuahia South, and outstations in over eight Local Government Areas (LGAs). These outstations are strategically located in:

– Ohafia LGA (Ohafia Local Government Secretariat, Contact: +234 803 255 3028)
– Ikwuano LGA (Isiala Ikwuano Local Government Council, Contact: +234 806 928 3824)
– Ukwa West LGA (Beside Area Inspectorate of Education, Obehie Asa, Contact: +234 803 797 4021)
– Aba North LGA (Aba North Secretariat, Contact: +234 803 670 2776)
– Aba South LGA (Aba South Secretariat, Contact: +234 703 554 7910)
– Bende LGA (Bende Secretariat, Contact: +234 803 689)
– Isuikwuato LGA (Isuikwuato LGA Secretariat, Mbalano, Contact: +234 703 621 6708)
– Osisioma LGA (Room 5, Environmental Health Department Block, Osisioma LGA Secretariat, Contact: +234 803 539 8972)
– Umuahia North LGA (Umuahia North Secretariat, Bende Road, Contact: 0703 308 4191)

This expansion has led to a significant increase in case generation and resolution. The current Ombudsman is committed to further expanding the Commission’s reach by establishing more outstations in the remaining LGAs of the State, ensuring that the Commission’s services are accessible to all.
