The Honourable Chief Commissioner of the Public Complaints Commission, Hon. Abimbola Ayo-Yusuf has stressed the need for the Federal Government to improve the funding of the Commission to enable it perform its functions effectively.
The Chief Ombudsman stated this on Thursday when he paid a courtesy visit to the Clerk of the National Assembly, Alhaji Sani Magaji Tambuwal in Abuja.
He solicited the intervention of the Clerk to influence the Commission’s request for a special financial intervention from the government to enable it pay its accumulated liabilities.
The Chief Ombudsman lamented that the underfunding which has led to the Commission’s inability to pay the entitlements of its Staff was making the three Unions in the Commission become agitated and threatening industrial action.
In his response, Alhaji Tambuwal said he had been part of the developments in the Commission and was aware of its financial challenge.
He urged the Commission to more proactive and systematic in the planning and defense of their budget so as to change its present situation.
The pledged his readiness to assist the Commission get better funding and emphasised that no organization can perform its functions without adequate funding.
The Honourable Chief Commissioner was accompanied on the visit by other Commissioners and management staff of the Commission’s Headquarters.
