FCT PCC BOSS MEETS CHAIRMAN POLICE SERVICE COMMISSION, MAKES CASE FOR FCT INDIGENES ON POLICE RECRUITMENT, COLLABORATES TO PROMOTE ACCOUNTABLE AND PROFESSIONAL POLICING

The Honourable Commissioner of the Federal Capital Territory’s (FCT) Public Complaints Commission (PCC), Comrade Dalhatu Ezekiel Musa, on Monday paid a visit to the Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Mr. Solomon Arase in his office in Abuja.

The meeting aimed to foster collaboration between the two organizations, focusing on enhancing public trust and accountability within the law enforcement sector. The Commissioner while citing cases of police abuses reported to his office by residents of the FCT, stressed the importance of having a professional police that is free from such rights abuses and the need for citizens to have a reliable channel to voice their grievances and concerns. Furthermore, he urged the Commission to ensure equitable representation of all constituencies in the recruitment and promotion processes in the Nigeria Police Force with specific reference to the case of FCT indigenes who are usually shortchanged in the process and their slot taken over by other Nigerians.
Dalhatu also praised the efforts of the Police Service Commission under Arase in their commitment to upholding the integrity of the police force while ensuring the rights and well-being of the public.

Arase, a former Inspector General of Police, welcomed the Commissioner and his team, highlighting the shared goal of improving the relationship between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve. He expressed his unwavering commitment to promoting professionalism, transparency, and accountability within the police force, emphasizing the role of the Police Service Commission in achieving these objectives.

The meeting concluded with the duo reaffirming their commitment to collaborative efforts that will lead to a safer and more accountable law enforcement environment in the Federal Capital Territory. They pledged to work closely together and agreed to have a representative of the public commission to closely monitor the recruitment exercise going forward to address the concerns of the public and strengthen the relationship between the police and the community.
