In furtherance of its mandate to ensure administrative justice and transparency, the Public Complaints Commission (PCC) conducted an on-the-spot visit to the Osun State Ministry of Women, Children and Social Affairs. The visit directed by the Osun State Director of Investigation Mr Mewase Vincent , aimed to monitor the ministry’s compliance with several complaints transferred by the PCC regarding the resolution of outstanding grievances.
The Team Led by Osagie Michael, with Ayeni Damilare Frederick, and Amale Kolade, the PCC team met with the Permanent Secretary, Barrister Mrs. Abimbola Babatunde, and the Director of Gender Mrs Lola Adewale, Osun State Ministry of Women, Children, and Social Affairs. The team conducted a thorough review of the status of transferred complaints and assessed the progress made in addressing them.
As the Nigerian Ombudsman, the PCC, established by its enabling Act, does not entertain all complaints but serves as a whistleblower, transferring complaints outside its purview to the relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) responsible for addressing them. The PCC monitors the progress of such transferred complaints to ensure resolution.
The Permanent Secretary acknowledged the PCC’s oversight role and assured the team of the ministry’s commitment to resolving the outstanding complaints. The Director of Gender equally expressed her appreciation for the PCC’s visit and pledged to expedite action on the complaints. Furthermore, the ministry promised to include the PCC as one of its stakeholders, leveraging the commission’s expertise in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) to enhance the ministry’s complaint resolution processes.
The PCC team emphasized the importance of interagency collaboration in ensuring prompt and efficient resolution of citizens’ complaints. This visit underscores the PCC’s resolve to hold public institutions accountable for their actions and ensure that justice is served.
