PCC DECRIES SERVICE DELIVERY BY COMMERCIAL BANKS

The Honourable Commissioner, Abia State Office of the Public Complaints Commission, Hon. Madukwe E. E. Ukaegbu has expressed displeasure with the unsatisfactory service delivery by commercial banks in the State.

The Honourable Commissioner stated this when he and his team paid a working visit to the Abia State, Branch Controller of Central Bank Of Nigeria (CBN) , Mr. Olaoba Ayotunde.

The meeting which served as a double-faceted platform was used by both principals to acquaint with each other . The Federal Commissioner after intimating his host on the Commission’s role in the Nigerian society further used the platform to express his dissatisfaction at the modus operandi of most commercial banks in the State, particularly the Zenith Bank which has severally been petitioned by a vast number of complainants .

The PCC boss out rightly bemoaned the incessant losses and other problems unsuspecting customers encounter from their respective bank institutions as a result of their unsatisfactory service delivery which include mostly abysmal customer care and unreliable internet banking among others.

He categorically stated that it is not enough to merely fine those banks that have erred in one way or the other but to endeavor to at least seal some of their branches in order to check such failures.

He summarily touched on the adverse outcome of the redesigned Naira crisis that happened earlier in the year; and thereafter urged his host to remain firm in their regulatory role in the banking industry.

While responding, the Branch Controller appreciated his guest and his entourage for the August visit.

He further expressed his readiness to foster a collaboration with the Commission particularly in the area of complaint redressing and urged the Commission to work hand in hand with the Bank’s Customer Protection Unit.

The Branch Controller clarified that the Central Bank does not have the power to shut down any defaulting bank institution as a form of sanction. He however assured the Commission that he will keep convening state-wide summits in the State where bank executives and customers can come together to share their experiences and challenges.

The climax of the occasion was the presentation of the Commission’s Copies of Annual Report and taking of photographs .
