PCC SEEKS THE ASSISTANCE OF TRADITIONAL RULERS IN THE DISCHARGE OF ITS MANDATE

The Honourable Commissioner of the Ondo State office of the Public Complaints Commission, Hon. Adeyemi Oni has enjoined the support of traditional rulers in the State to enable the Commission perform its responsibilities.

Hon. Adeyemi Oni made the appeal when he led the management staff of the Commission on a courtesy visit to the palace of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III, Olowo of Owo Kingdom on 25th August, 2023.

The Honourable Commissioner expressed gratitude to Oba Gbadegesin for deeming it worthy to host members of the Commission. He stressed that the main function of the Commission as an institution established by the Nigerian constitution is to redress social and administrative injustices.

The Honourable Commissioner further stated that the Public Complaints Commission upholds human rights and provides an alternative dispute resolution platform where everyone can get justice free of charge.

He therefore called for the continued support of the palace to enable the Commission to perform its duties effectively.

The Commissioner used the occasion to inform the monarch about the activities of the Commission and the challenges being faced by the area office in Owo. He lamented that the office does not have a befitting office space and would require assistance in this regards.

In his response, the monarch appreciated the Commission for valuing traditional system and promoting socio-cultural well being of the land.

He also stated that the palace is keen on dispute resolutions and assured the Commission of his support at any time. He noted that both institutions are alike especially in the area of promoting peace through dispute resolution.

The climax of the courtesy visit was an educational tour around the palace by the Palace Media Team and a visit to the Commission’s Area office in Oke Mapo, Owo.
